Development Goal
To create the first skilled nursing facility in the United States specifically for persons living with HIV/AIDS. Since this project was unique, it required extensive programming, design and development, as well as community relations.
Project
- Skilled nursing facility development consisting of:
- A 35-bedroom residential facility specializing in long-term care services for persons living with HIV/AIDS
- Designed to accommodate the changing medical needs of the residents,
including day and community spaces, dining areas, and an adult
health program
- Designed to meet the requirements of a licensed nursing facility
- Programming, architecture and management of this project has
been a model to many other facilities throughout the country
- Programming has expanded to include extended care for cancer patients
- Project required an extremely wide variety of funding sources, from federal, state, city and county to private and corporate contributions
Lorig Involvement
- Managed design, permitting, construction and financing of
the project
- Extensively involved in managing the community relations aspect of this project, helping to bring it through a lengthy permitting and consensus process
